Initially, we drew inspiration from ourselves. Even though we look strikingly different on the outside, if you read our individual bios, you’ll see that we are quite similar in surprising ways! As we explored the idea of opposition further, we realized that we wanted to show duality through the lens of “unity”, rather than “separation”.
When it comes to pairs of opposites — good & evil, truth & lies, strength & weakness, etc. — we instinctively identify ourselves with the half that we deem more virtuous, beautiful, and advantageous. What is usually overlooked, is that the “dark side” that we reject is equally valuable - and even essential - to the existence of the things that we love and cherish; there is no spring without winter. In the album, each song tells the story of a pair of opposites which seem incompatible at first, but find a way to coexist in the end. When this powerful polarity works together - becoming an asset instead of a barrier - a new “whole” emerges; one that is much more than the sum of its parts.
