The First Idea: A Late-Night Voice Memo

The earliest version of “Dym” started as a simple melody line I (Marko) recorded on my phone at 2 a.m. It was quiet, half-whispered — mostly because everyone else in the apartment was asleep — but it carried the emotional core that would eventually define the song.

The idea behind the lyrics came from that feeling of being stuck between two worlds: the one you know you should leave and the one you’re afraid to step into. “Dym” (“Smoke”) is a metaphor for everything unclear, for moments when emotions blur your vision and you’re trying to find the way out.When I brought the idea to rehearsal, the rest of the band immediately started shaping the song around it.

Building the Instrumental: Finding the Right Mood

At first, “Dym” sounded almost like a ballad — soft, minimal, atmospheric. But during the jam session, Oleg played a guitar riff with a slightly darker tone, and everything shifted.That riff became the backbone of the track.

• Guitar: A blend of clean chorus with a gritty overdrive in the chorus
• Bass: Warm, rounded, almost “breathing” — giving the verses space
• Drums: A steady beat with subtle ghost notes to keep the tension moving
• Synths: A layer of analog pads that slowly rise and fall like smoke

Sofia added a drum pattern that intentionally holds back in the verses. Instead of driving the song forward, it creates a sense of restraint — mirroring the emotional hesitation in the lyrics.This balance between softness and pressure became the song’s signature.
